Metabolism has two sides — and the balance between them matters

What is the passive side?

How do you know if your passive side is low or overactivated?
Metabolic balance is very personal. Some people have a more dominant passive side, others a more dominant excited side. Neither is "bad" — the problem appears when the balance breaks.
Here are five simple questions that can give you a sense of it. If you answer "yes" to one or more, your dominant side is most likely NOT the passive one, but the excited one:
- Do fats (fried foods, butter, heavy meals) sit badly or cause digestive discomfort?
- If you eat late at night, do you not digest well?
- Do you find red meat hard to digest?
- Do you sleep lightly and wake up at any noise?
- Does eating late at night make it hard to fall asleep?
If most of your answers are "no", your dominant side is most likely the passive one. And if your passive side is too passive, you tend to notice more tiredness than usual, a sense of heaviness, sleep that doesn't restore, and slow digestion.
Habits that support the passive side of metabolism
The good news: there are very concrete things you can do every day to support this side of metabolism. None of them are complicated.
1. Conscious breathing
It's the simplest and one of the most effective. Slow, deep breathing — especially when the exhale is longer than the inhale — is one of the most direct ways to activate the vagus nerve.
Try 4 minutes a day: inhale through the nose for a count of 4, exhale through the mouth for a count of 6. No app or course needed. Just your breath.
2. Sleep on stable hours
Going to bed and getting up at roughly the same time — including on weekends — gives the body a clear signal about when it's time to repair. It's one of the habits that fastest changes how you feel.
3. Eat without screens, sitting down, slowly
Digestion is the passive side's work. When you eat under tension, in a rush, or looking at a screen full of notifications, you ask the body for two opposite things at once. Chewing slowly and sitting down gives the digestive system space to do its part.
4. A walk after eating
A short walk (10-15 minutes) after the main meal is one of the most underestimated habits. It's not intense exercise — it's gentle movement that helps digestion.
5. Occasional grounding
